refractions in the plast

OK so it’s finally been a bit warmer recently. So here are a couple rolls from the last week. This weekend was the UWO Film Festival. SO I traveled to London to attend that. The film I shot for Nick, Skinema took best overall short and viewers choice. The film that Graham and I shot “The Observer” also screened. Since it’s not 3am I’ve decided to go through and narrate the shots. This weekend was also St Patrick’s day so there might be some festive shots too. Everything is off the zeiss ikon and trix+3.

I’ll start off with a self portrait how original.

This is from dinner with nick and jen.

IMG431_copy.jpg

Evan and his girlfriend walked by which was funny because I had just run into Evan that day. We invited them in to join us. I forgot about the parallax on this shot

IMG433_copy.jpg

Biker man I spotted while I was walking around on queen after buying some speaker wire. finally spring has come.

IMG437_copy.jpg

you decide.

expensive car, expensive ticket. The ticket police were out in storm on this beautiful day.
IMG444_copy.jpg

There are a lot of “punk” characters who hang out on queen (they may live there?) they are not the cleanest folk, neither are Toronto’s garbage receptacles

So I went to London for the film fest and spent the afternoon on Friday with my mom, we had some lunch in Ilderton, where my parents live and I grew up. my mom hates getting her picture taken and will ask me to take this down.

People weren’t asking Graham many questions about our film, he shrugged it off.

IMG457_copy.jpg

he’s not too concerned about it.

IMG458_copy.jpg

Ken at the end of my roll, with some dust dried on his face. In his house Saturday morning.

IMG459.jpg

Ken gets to be the start of my next roll, much cleaner

IMG460.jpg

I like the soft short light in the living room.

IMG461_copy.jpg

I wish I had been on the street when I took this, this guy was too perfect. I shot this from my car, my light metre was in my bag so I just guessed the exposure. Came out much better than I had anticipated, all considered.

IMG463_copy.jpg

Saturday night screening and awards begin with some games.

IMG464.jpg

Graham thinking tonight is the night he will be put in the lime light. at the after screening awards ceremony waiting for the judges to return
IMG465_copy.jpg

he enjoys it at first but after awhile decides he needs to shield his eyes.

free food.

IMG467.jpg

some chating

IMG468.jpg

graham eats a whole cupcake, very exciting.

IMG472.jpg

Batman stands watch while Nick flirts with his professor.

IMG478.jpg

The winners were announced, and Nicks film took the top prizes, I guess as cinematographer that’s a win for me too.
IMG479_copy.jpg

Jen at the after party

IMG480_copy.jpg

Ray was a wonderful judge, I hope our working together wasn’t a conflict of interest. oups.

IMG483_copy.jpg

Ray impresses many women with his devilish grin.

IMG484.jpg

Despite being a vegetarian Nick can fit a lot of food in his mouth.

IMG490.jpg

Vanessa wanted to take a picture of me with my camera, so after a quick lesson on range finders she was ready to go. The focus is a little short but not a bad first try. You can see my new hair cut here.

IMG494_copy.jpg

I was trying to get some bounced light here to fill Jens face but the table wasn’t working too well. I wanted a piece of paper or foam core, but we couldn’t find any in the kitchen. I like the shot though. as anticipated a little underexposed but i like it. A pause away from the rest of the party.

IMG495.jpg

this is where I ran out of film and reached into my coat pocket for another roll and realized I wasn’t wearing a coat, which ended my shooting for the evening.

ok

You developed and scanned those fast! That first one from dinner is an incredible shot.

    lovely shot.really.

did you squeegee those already? i suppose because of the scratch - squeegeeing film gives you scratches when you apply too much pressure or when both - film and squeegee - are too dry. i remember this made me stop squeegeeing when i tried first and made me have all those funny little dust particles and dry marks. yay.

tones look great - still shooting trix and developing in xtol?

I love 484. It’s like he’s eating and listening and suddenly interested in what he hears.
