Oh to be 16 again. I used to get a lot of good shots out of a 36 exposure roll of velvia. The following were taken while I was 16. On my first slr, when it was still working. I dont know if my preference is driven by nostalgia but after the last 6 years of experimenting with formats and digital and all kinds of different films. I’d be content with that old contax and a 100 iso roll of velvia. Although I think I would prefer a proper film advancing mechanism. Either way there is something about the tones of slide film. But then again I’m feeling nostalgic. Got to get to bed, big day tomorrow I’m shooting vegitables!

So summer is over. Wow that was quick. I took a few photos this summer. I also moved during the middle of the summer which took a lot of my time and energy but the rest of the time was pretty good. So I processed some film this week. The colour stuff is from one of those point and shoot one time use waterproof cameras, I had never used one before, it wasn’t bad, obviously not a real camera, but at least it’s film. Anyhow those are from camping for Stephs birthday. There are shots from my families cottage Katherine and I out on the boat with my mom and dad. There is Nicks house warming party/Clays last night in town. There’s beasley and I finding a TV. I guess that’s it! Nothing special, just random stuff. I also think that my contax camera is leaking light. Might be time to bite the bullet and get one of those leica m6′s.

This is one hell of a post. Lets call this the post of film lost. Long story short, I found a bunch of old film and processed it and a lot of it is old and looks bad and some is rather new. How old you ask, well shots from Macau last summer at this time, 120 medium format stuff from montreal this winter with my TLR. The new stuff is from my trip recently to Boston and Maine. There are also some shots that Katherine took of me kiteboarding. A real mixed bag of images here, most are crap.

In other news, I’ve upgraded my blog here so it’s easier to navigate (It has tags now!) I’ve also become completely obsessed with cycling and I wear the spandex and the cleats and everything, so I don’t take transit street photos anymore because well, I don’t take transit. Those of you thinking I am the next Lance Armstrong are absolutely right.

OK so I processed some film yesterday and got around to scanning it tonight. there’s a lot of different stuff here so I’m going to comment photo by photo. Everything is TriX+2 in xtol. The first two shots are off the contax slr with the 50 zeiss 1.7. The rest are off the zeiss ikon rangefinder.

At brians place playing poker. I was experimenting with my 580ex flash rigged up to the rangefinder. the flash is zoomed in all the way to give the spotted effect. I think it would look nice against a textured wall.

at the zoo

So I developed a couple rolls of film tonight. I need to go to bed so I don’t have time to scan all of them but here are just the ones from the interpol concert last night. the rest I will scan/post tomorrow. This is trix+2 in xtol off my contax slr with the 50 F1.7. I had to sneak the camera into the show in my hood and shoot covertly during the concert to get the shots. I only had about 2 seconds to compose focus and shoot each frame. I’m pretty impressed with my ability to guess exposures just by looking, sans light meter.

keep your distance

OK so I developed this roll like 3 days ago but have neglected posting it. I ordered my new scanner and it should be in in like a week. I don’t like posting stuff off the current scanner because once I get the new scanner I’m going to want to rescan everything but whatever, we’ll tackle that stone when we get to it. so these are photos from the last few weeks off my contax slr, not the new range finder, although you can see Doug trying out the new range finder in one of these shots. It really is a beautiful camera, I’m going to try printing a large print of the picture of ken at his desk off the last roll on the new range finder. I think it came out the sharpest. I bought 10 sheets of 16 by 20 paper last week. It’s just rc paper but it should give a good idea of the capabilities of the lens at that size. Also I’m booking a date for my studio shoot for later this month, looking forward to that. look two of the exact same car in front of me. It’s like a volvo party. yeah that’s right I said it.

Contax IIIa zeiss ikon rangefinder, my new camera.

So I bought a camera yesterday, It’s a 50 year old zeiss ikon rangefinder. It has a really nice 35mm 2.8 biogon zeiss lens. So I’ve loaded up a roll of film and plan to finish it tonight process Tuesday night after work. here are some pics form teh net of the camera. oh and I got it for under a hundred bucks. So I couldn’t be happier.
