I was just messing around with Google earth and didn’t realize that mountains are now rendered in 3d!! SO I looked up where we did our mountain climb up to the mountain village in rishikesh India this august and was amazed by the details in the rendition in Google earth. This has really inspired me to get a gps. This could making finding interesting things spotted on Google earth easy, and tracking hikes and trips after the fact a lot of fun. The other great idea is sync up my cameras time with the gps time to know exactly WHERE I was WHEN I took certain photos based on the tag. This is the begining of the culmination of all my favorite hobbies into the single hobby that will change my life forever. The possibilities are endless, if only I could make this a career.

I recommend that you full view them, they will pop up in a popup window the size of the image, do not fear simply click to close. the resized versions are 1000 pixels on the largest side. I wish I could show larger versions because the details are nice. and these are all off the 30d. I have similar looking medium format stuff but I have no way of printing them because they’re slides.

So take a look but please be patient. so here is the link, The Dharamsala Abstract. By the way, I forgot to mention that all of these photos are right out of the camera no manipulation at all, they were shot as jpg’s because I had no intention of modifying them.

But I thought I may as well copy and paste a brief history of the area to give you (the infamous reader) a mental image of what this place is like.

Haridwar pronunciation (helpยทinfo) (also known as Hardwar) is a holy city in the Haridwar District in the state of Uttaranchal in northern India. Literally meaning Gateway to God, Haridwar is considered one of the seven holiest places according to Hindus, as the devas are said to have left their footprints there.

The spot where the immortal nectar fell when it was carried in a Kumba after the famed churning of the oceans at the time of creation of the universe is known as Brahma Kund. Hindus all over the world flock to this place to have a holy dip to attain salvation from their sins of birth. The dusk arathi performed at Hari- Ki- Pairi (known for a footprint of Vishnu on a stone in a wall) is a spectacular sight full of emotions of sound and colour never to be missed by any visitors. This is the second most holiest pilgrimage site after Varanasi for Hindus all over the globe. Here pilgrims float diyas on the Ganges, to commemorate their deceased ancestors. Wow how exciting eh.,. so Nick and I have been touring around a bit today (although in now seems dark outside since we entered this internet cafe…curious..) and this is really a beautiful city. to associate it with anything I’ve seen before I’d have to say the animated disney film Alladin. the roof tops are all connected and there are monkeys all over the place, also we’re right at the foot of the Himalayas so the view is pretty amazing. Tomorrow I think we’re going to head up to Rishikesh (the yoga capital of the world) in the mountains. Should be a pretty good time… now I’m going to go outside and negotiate a fee (hopefully 20 rupees) with an auto rickshaw and enjoy the open air of the indian roads.

I dont have time to write much today, but we just won first place at the imagine cup for our short film!! Here are some photos!! First we spent the day 2 days ago at the taj on the inside! wowo pretty amazing place. Since then we came back to Delhi and have won first place in short film. we’re staying in an amazing hotel!! I’ve been sleeping on a king sized bed> so life is hard.. but tomorrow microsoft cuts us off and we’re on our own. Off in the the Indian backcountry.
