It was about 30 degrees centigrade colder than it was today. The spit is really interesting, it’s all man made from half a century worth of industrial garbage. That beach is all bricks and concrete from demolished buildings. I guess I can just quote wikipedia

” The Leslie Street Spit is a man-made headland in Toronto, Canada, extending from the city’s east end in a roughly southwesterly direction into Lake Ontario. It is about 5 km long. The official name of the spit, sometimes used on government maps is the Outer Harbour East Headland.”

There you go, your Toronto geography lesson of the day. It was very surreal being out there though. You’re standing on a giant pile of treasures, and it’s just massive. Shortly after taking these shots we saw a Snowy Owl which was pretty god damned stunning. It’s strange to see such a beautiful animal on a garbage pile.

Anyhow I had intentions of shooting colour here but I forgot the slide for my film back and couldn’t change film. Also the wide angle lens for my camera broke and as a result wasn’t metering so I had to guess these exposures. I’ll have to go back on a nice summer day to capture all the colours of the stones and tiles. My friend Patrick and I just aquired a 4×5 camera that we’re splitting so it might be nice to do 4×5.

I find this extremely offensive on many levels. I was pretty shocked. I don’t want to invite debate but how does this make you feel?

I’m at home in Toronto packing (or reminding myself that I should be packing at least) for my holiday to palm springs that I leave for friday morning at 5 am. Katherine is already down there I’m meeting up with her and her family there. I’m flying into LA then we’re going to drive to the grand canyon/vegas. I bought a bunch of film and a wind angel lens for my 645 system and am hoping to get some shots of the foreclosed houses down there. I guess there are guys painting the burnt grass green. I’m assuming that was more in the summer but it should be nice now with christmas in the desert. Anyhow should be a nice little trip either way. I guess it snowed in Vegas last week so I’m going to bring a coat.

I picked up some film a couple days ago at my Lab of choice “Toronto Image Works”. While I was purchasing some film Edward Burtynsky walked in. He is the owner of the lab so it doesn’t seem that odd that he would be there but in the 5 years I’ve been going there (sometimes for 4+ hours in a night to use the darkrooms) I had yet to encounter him. I felt a little star struck (which makes sense he’s easily my favorite photographer) but I stopped him and struck up a conversation, he was extremely gracious and didn’t try to cut the conversation short and sneak out or seem rushed in teh slightest. I obviously volunteered my services if he ever needed an assistant, which he just as graciously encouraged.

So that’s pretty much it, there are some terrible photos through the link at the start of this post but they’re certainly nothing to be proud of. I’ll be back in a week and a half.

Wow that was quick. I took a few photos this summer. I also moved during the middle of the summer which took a lot of my time and energy but the rest of the time was pretty good. So I processed some film this week. The colour stuff is from one of those point and shoot one time use waterproof cameras, I had never used one before, it wasn’t bad, obviously not a real camera, but at least it’s film. Anyhow those are from camping for Stephs birthday. There are shots from my families cottage Katherine and I out on the boat with my mom and dad. There is Nicks house warming party/Clays last night in town. There’s beasley and I finding a TV.  I guess that’s it! Nothing special, just random stuff. I also think that my contax camera is leaking light. Might be time to bite the bullet and get one of those leica m6′s.

They are developers and we are building the website for the development. Anyhow we needed some images so we went to take some photos. There is a really cool observatory on the property. This is Kaminski the designer who is building the site. I thought this was a cool portrait because all last week he was working on the logo for the development which has the observatory as a centre piece and I feel like I inserted him into his own work. Most of the time he works on a whole project without leaving the office. I don’t know if most of you will appreciate that point of view but it means a lot to me. Here are a few frames of what I shot today.

My friend Luke earlier this week suggested that I take some pictures (As I had done this once before for one of their celebrations). I had totally forgotten I even owned a digital SLR so I thought it would be fun to play around with for the evening.

I’ve been trying out different web galleries from lightroom and I’ve finally found one I really like. Just click on the image below to enter the gallery.

One of the cool features of this gallery is it’s compatible with a browser extension called piclens. I strongly suggest that everyone get this extension. It literally  takes 10 seconds to get and is really amazing, it works with facebook and all that jazz too. One of the other nice things about this gallery is that it’s html so all you kids out there can steal my images by simply right clicking and saving as and use them on your facebooks. anyhow get piclens it’s cool.
